Every Apple Silicon MacBook ships a hinge-angle sensor on the HID bus. macOS uses it to wake and sleep the machine. LidClose reads the same number, sixty times a second, and turns it straight into pixels.

Any Apple Silicon MacBook Air or MacBook Pro from 2021 onward running macOS 14 or later — those are the models with the hinge-angle sensor. On a Mac without the sensor the app still runs and you can play the effect from the menu bar or drag the angle slider, but it won't follow the lid.
To bend your screen, LidClose has to see your screen. macOS files that under Screen Recording. Frames go straight from ScreenCaptureKit to the GPU and are discarded. Nothing is saved, and the app makes no network requests at all.
No. It sits idle at zero CPU until the hinge moves. While the effect is playing it renders about 5 ms per frame on the GPU, which is well inside a 60 fps budget on an M1.
Yes. There's a "Start at" slider. The default is 90°, so the fold begins once the lid is halfway down. Set it to 130° if you want it to react the instant you touch the lid.
